The 1920s was a time boiling with prosperity and culture. It has been nicknamed The Roaring 20s. In the previous decade, The Great Migration, “the relocation of more than 6 million African Americans from the rural South to the cities of the North” had started which caused the Harlem Renaissance. Almost anyone could become rich by investing in the stock market. Many people thought this idea was great. Although Prohibition was still a law, many broke it anyway by going to speakeasies, underground bars where people would drink alcohol. People were very innovative and new inventions were popping up everywhere. Sliced bread,Band-aids, insulin and stop lights were created. Although there were people who thought prosperity would last forever, there were also people who were suspicious and doubted that life would continue on like this. This decade started with President Warren Harding. When he died in 1923, Calvin Coolidge became the president. Herbert Hoover was the president after Coolidge at the end of this wonderful decade when the stock market crashed.
